Duration: The complete course runs for 4 terms (in the calendar year) 10 classes of 2 hours per term.
It is possible to join the classes at any time throughout the year subject to having the suitable level of English at the time of enrolment

The Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre offers IELTS classes to assist you with the skills needed for each of the four sections of the exam: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Speaking: Students learn a wide range of speaking skills
- communicating opinions and information on everyday topics and experiences
- speaking on a given topic using appropriate language and organising ideas
- expressing and justifying opinions
- analysing, discussing and speculating about issues
Listening: Students learn a wide range of listening skills
- understanding of main ideas and specific factual information
- recognising opinions, attitudes and purpose of a speaker
- following the development of an argument
Reading: Students learn a wide range of reading skills
- reading for gist, for main ideas, and for detail
- recognising opinions, attitudes and purpose
- following the development of an argument
Writing: Students learn a wide range of writing skills
- the ability to write a response appropriate in terms of content
- the organisation of ideas
- the accuracy and range of vocabulary and grammar
IELTS classes at the SHNC:
- prepare students for the IELTS General Training test
- start at a Pre-Intermediate Level and gradually work towards the level required to achieve Band Score 5 or 6 at the IELTS exam
- offer preparation for the Academic IELTS test in the last semester or on request
The classes include:
- Exam Practice: To revise each module and to prepare for exam conditions
- Exam Tips: To advise you on how to go about getting the highest score possible
- Reviews: To reflect on what has been achieved and what needs more work
- Mock Tests: To monitor the challenge you can expect from the exam
More intensive training possible subject to sufficient enrolments.
Teacher: Experienced IELTS teacher with a Certificate in English Language Teaching for Adults (CELTA) and 7 years of teaching experience at the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre assisting many students in improving their English language skills.
Cost: $120 per semester or $ 15 per class of 2 hours (includes training material).
