The Surry Hills Festival has a new home page. To get it, click on the link above.
For 2012 Surry Hills Festival will return to its home at Prince Alfred Park. The park has undergone an amazing renovation by the City of Sydney and we’re excited to be back working in conjunction with them to produce this iconic inner city event. Surry Hills Festival will host a brilliant showcase of music, art installations, theatre, markets, and the ever popular dog show-off and much much more.
Past years of the Festival have seen hot Aussie music acts like Tin Sparrow, Lanie Lane and Jinja Safari all grace the stage. The festival market stalls offer a fantastic array of items from local designers and artists, as well as ethical products, funky pet wear, and delicacies from around the world.
The Surry Hills Festival is produced by the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre as a major fundraiser for the Centre’s community services. The Festival is more than a showcase of creative talent; it’s about raising much needed funds that go back into helping provide support for marginalised people of Surry Hills.”
For 2012 the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre (SHNC) is excited to announce we've appointed leading event producers and the team behind Peats Ridge Festival, The Festival Company (TFC), to produce the event. The Festival Company’s commitment to community, sustainability, music and arts and the general magic of Peats Ridge, make them a natural fit for the Surry Hills Festival.
The rest of this old website reports on the 2011 Festival.
Surry Hills rocked in glorious sunshine with the 2011 Festival. Large crowds jammed Shannon Reserve and Ward Park and filled the footpaths and shops, cafes and bars in between! Great music and lively entertainment was enjoyed by everyone as they sat on the grass or strolled through the market stalls and tasty food outlets. Visitors to the Surry Hills Library and Community Centre enjoyed activities in the Library and upstairs in the Kitchen. A good time was had by all in perfect, warm, conditions.

Imagine, if you will, a version of Sculpture By The Sea composed entirely of virtual 3D works in specific geographic locations. Visitors to these locations with an iPhone, Android or Nokia SmartPhone (and a free app called the Layar Reality Browser) will be able to view and interact with these works which will appear on the screen of the phone as if they had been superimposed on the landscape. In some cases, the works may even play music/recordings for visitors.
The show will feature works by Australian artists, and an international contingent from as far afield as USA, UK, China and Portugal. For full details and a downloadable map of the Exhibition sites, please visit the (Un)Seen Sculptures website.
